f you’re looking for a real challenge to sink your teeth into this coming July, why don’t you join in and try ‘Plastic Free July‘?
Plastic was once known as a wonderful and useful product due to it’s incredible versatility, durability and how cheap it is to produce. By now however, we all know that plastic is public enemy #1. The problem with plastic? It’s everywhere! Unfortunately, the problem has gotten so bad now that drastic measures are needed if we are ever going to be able to do something about it.
Here are some quick stats to kick us off:
Still not convinced about the scale of the problem?
I don’t want to put a load of horrible photos and videos up as a scare tactic, there’s enough out if you happened to google it. Our addiction to plastic has gotten so bad, it is now found everywhere. And by everywhere, I mean everywhere. It has been found in Mariana Trench (the deepest part of the ocean), found in Antarctica, all the mussels and shellfish now contain plastic and it’s even in the water we drink.
Now do I have your attention? Good.
Freaked out? Even better.
“What can I do?! I’m just one person, I couldn’t possibly make an effect” I hear your ask? Wrong. One person can actually make a big impact through a sustained, long term effort. And, if every ‘one person’ made a change …. well, that’s huge!
So now, I challenge you to join me and try going plastic free for one month. Here is a quick and helpful guide to get you started with some everyday scenarios and it provides plastic free alternatives. Over the coming days I’ll also highlight a few of my favourite plastic free items that I use to show you how easy it can be to make changes to avoid plastic.
